Signal Flow and Patching
Signal flow is the foundation of sound engineering. With a clear understanding of the concepts of signal flow and patching, stage and sound techs can intuitively understand complex systems and tackle any challenge.
Gain Structure Relationships
There is a reason that gain, sometimes called input trim, is the first stop in the mixer signal flow. The many treatments applied during the mix process all depend on an effective gain level. This module discusses a few competing gain structure methods through comparison and contrast.
Dynamics and Equalization
If one perfect microphone and a universal open aesthetic existed, compressors, gates and equalizers would not be necessary. Fortunately, neither does. This module examines how we use these machines to color and control a mix.
Input Mixing
This module explains input mixing, including fader position, groups, auxilliary busses, and VCA (now commonly called DCA). It provides an in-depth look at what most would consider the 'meat and potatoes' of a sound engineer's work.
